Weight loss: 4 gluten-free ingredients you should avoid

There is an all-new trend of going gluten-free among the fitness enthusiasts. Originally, this gluten-free diet is recommended for people with celiac disease, which is a severe gluten intolerance. But now, many people without this condition are ‘going gluten-free’ believing it as a healthy option.
But before commencing your gluten-free journey, it is important to know that not all gluten-free items are whole foods. In fact, there are some gluten-free ingredients too that you should avoid taking at all cost.

What gluten-free means
Gluten is a kind of protein found in crops like wheat, barley, and rye. This helps food items like cereal, bread, and pasta, to hold their shape. It is also found in some cosmetic products, such as lip balm and lipstick.

The four gluten-free products to avoid
Corn starch, rice flour, tapioca starch, and potato flour are the four gluten-free ingredients you should avoid if your aim is to shed kilos. As per science, these ingredients are extremely harmful to health and can ruin your entire weight loss attempt. In worst case, it can even lead to weight gain. Most of the gluten-free processed food like bread and pasta are made of these four ingredients and hence should be avoided at all cost.

How is it harmful
These ingredients spike the blood sugar level and can sabotage your weight loss goal. Having a slice or two of gluten-free bread made with potato flour can spike the blood sugar approximately by 180 mg/dL within an hour after consumption. Gluten-free products like coconut flour, almond meal, and chia seed are better options.
