Bayer Animal Health GmbH and Nutreco announced May 20 that they have signed a global research and development collaboration agreement to drive the development of novel technologies and applications for the animal health and animal nutrition industries.

According to the announcement, Bayer Animal Health and Nutreco share a common goal of developing game-changing solutions that promote animal well-being and sustainable farm profitability by enhancing the nutritional and health performance of farm animals.

The first joint project will focus on advancing innovative solutions for gastrointestinal health in dairy and beef cattle, the companies said.

Financial details have not been disclosed.

“Today’s agreement further demonstrates our strong commitment to drive innovation in the farm animal space. Joining forces with Nutreco will increase our innovative capabilities and leverage the development of new solutions for our customers. We look forward to furthering farm animal health and well-being and contributing to the sustainable development of the dairy and beef cattle industry,” said Dr. Douglas Hutchens, head of drug discovery, external innovation and chief veterinary officer at Bayer Animal Health.

The project will be run by Nutreco’s animal nutrition division, Trouw Nutrition.
