‘I first got into the fitness industry in 1979 after my boyfriend at the time who became my husband introduced me to the gym,’ Ms Carroll told Daily Mail Australia.

‘At the time women didn’t really do weights but he said I should try this new thing called aerobics so I did it and I really liked it.

‘The class manager of the gym knew I was a dancer as I did ballet and he asked whether I wanted to become an aerobics instructor so I did and my life became all about awesome fluoro outfits, stage lights and microphones.’
